Literacy Leadership Cohort

The Literacy Leadership Cohort will provide a space for leaders of all types to unpack the Science of Reading research, discuss what it means for us in the GST region, and explore strategies for moving literacy improvement efforts forward.  Participants will engage in discussions around the research, the NYS ELA learning standards, the NYSED Literacy Briefs, and review the application of all the pieces in authentic action.

Goals:

●  Build upon the collective literacy knowledge of the cohort to gain a deeper understanding of current research, the NYSED Literacy briefs and the Science of Reading;

●  Continued growth of leadership skills in general focused on the strategic implementation of initiatives;

●  Provide literacy leadership “look fors” with instructional impact and authentic application of the “look fors” with live classroom visits;

●  Develop a customized action plan for the leader’s district with plans for implementation, progress monitoring and continual reflection.

Target Audience: 

Current literacy leaders as defined by each district (PK-12)

Sessions:

●   8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.; one-hour lunch on your own

●   All sessions held on the GST BOCES Coopers Campus in Bldg. 8 – DL Room, except as noted**

1.       Aug 15 – Bldg. 7 – Cafeteria**

2.      Oct 16

3.      Feb 4

4.      May 8

●   Four (4) school visits with live classroom walk throughs (Nov., Dec., Jan., and Feb.)

●   Individualized, job-embedded coaching sessions are available to support the transfer of knowledge from the group sessions to the district leader’s practice.

Cost: $685 per participant (based on 25 participants)
